Your Philinte of Optimism

Everyone just needs to happy. Not excessively so, but there's really no need for pessimism. There is plenty of happiness out there if you just look for it.

This song regards how love is cruel. It describes how I felt when I was with, and in the time after I was finished, with Celimene. It was painful and hard to witness the many number of suiters she had, as well as her lies, but, I learned briefly to forgive her. Still, though, there is no good reason to tolerate one’s bad behavior!

I once was a true supporter of every message in this song (even if I didn’t openly show it). I firmly believed that love was caustic and that the world would be better if it didn’t exist. However, my love, Eliante, did eventually fall in love with me too. Just I’ve said multiple times before, you just have to be optimistic, and things will work out the way they’re supposed to. Never give up on the one you love, because love takes time, and with a little patience, your lover can quickly turn into a bride-to-be, and when that happens, you’ll be happier than you ever were. Just stay positive, and never give up.

The Silver Lining: Forgive Me →

eliante123:

My dear Philinte, you were right! I see it now, we do belong together! I realized this just now when Alceste heard about Celimene’s disloyalty. He said to me, Madam, this heart within my breast is yours; pray take it; redeem my heart from her, and so avenge me on my torturer. It was then that I…

My love, have no fear. As I told you earlier, that’s my heart’s most cherished goal, for which I’d gladly give my life and soul. However, Alceste is on the brink of running away to isolation, despite my persistent pleading. I’ve tried to convince him to stay, but you were in love with Alceste once, so I’m sure you’re aware of how stubborn he is. Although our most prevalent morals horrendously contradict each other, Alceste is still my best friend. So help me, my bride-to-be, we must do everything we can to change the mind of this unhappy man before he throws his own life away.

“Comedy is acting out optimism.” -Robin Williams
For those of you that don’t know, the picture above is that of Jeff Dunham—an excellent ventriloquist who also happens to be my favorite comedian—and one of his favorite puppets, Achmed the Dead Terrorist. Stand-up comedy is probably my favorite past-time. The hobby (or profession for some people) serves one reason: to entertain. The entire performance of every stand-up comedy act is always full of laughter, positive energy, and happiness, nothing else. In short, nothing surpasses stand-up comedy because really, what’s better than a group of stress-free people laughing continuously, just enjoying life without a care in the world?

Love…

Eliante,

I merely wanted to inform you that I am trying to fall asleep while thinking about you this evening. Needless to say, it’s extremely difficult. Now, I understand that you are in love with Alceste, fine man though he is, but there are a number of signs that lead me to believe that he is falling in love with that Celimene. Have you seen her lately? Just gorgeous, more beautiful and charming than ever. Anyways, never forget that to make you love me is my heart’s most cherished goal, for which I’d gladly give my life and soul. Although I am now second best, I’ll always feel this way until you can steer your mind away from that pessimistic Alceste.

This is the man I idolize, William Shakespeare.  He drives me to write the poems I write, and I aspire to write as well as him one day.  I most enjoyed Shakespeare’s sonnet 130, because it is about how any woman could be loved regardless of how they look.  It just so happens that my love, Celimene, is beautiful and intellegent.

I must say I agree, that is one of Shakespeare’s most excellent poems. Quite frankly, I can’t remember a poem I’ve liked so well. The sonnet excellently expresses his love for the woman he feels so strongly about. My favorite part has to be the ending; the close exquisite—full of feeling and grace. The fact that he is your idol probably has the most to do with the fact that your poem to Celimene was just as expertly written. Stay with your poetry, perhaps you should even write another! After your first, I’d love to read a second.

Please click on the title of this article to read about what happens when you voice all of your negative opinions and try to change too much about our complicated society. In just two years, nine teenagers in the same school district have taken their own lives! Hopefully, reading this, you’re not being too naive as toassume they just took their own lives for no particular reason. They were all bullied unjustly for their homosexuality. What’s worse, the district actually put into place anti-bullying policies! I can only assume that these policies added to the fire of depression that eventually consumed these poor adolescents. Here we have not one but two moral felonies: spreading negative opinion (criticizing teenagers for their sexuality) AND trying to bite off more societal change than one can chew (trying to change the world by enforcing anti-gay policies). Alceste, I shan’t lie, this post is first and foremost directed at you. Please read the article thoroughly. Is this what you hope to achieve through your “frankness?” Ending lives? I beg of you, rage less at your opponents,* for plans do not always follow through as one originally intends. I may also add that although this would be an excellent read for a man like Alceste, this article is really excellent material that displays the horrendous consequences of being openly opinionated, and anyone and everyone should read it if they have the time.

I advocate only frankness with flaws.  Homosexuality, however, is not a flaw.  If we are to refrain from criticism, should we let these deplorable bullies continue harassing people to the point of suicide?  This is a flaw that needs to be corrected, and I doubt even you could argue with that.

In answer to your question, no, we cannot let these bullies continue with their harassment. However, with all due respect, my friend, I was implying that you are one of these “deplorable bullies.” All that I’m saying is that you should be careful how you say what you say, because we wouldn’t want anyone else to end up like these poor kids…

Waking up is one of the hardest things to do in life, so it’s nice to wake up to some tunes. I found this song, I think it’s pretty famous, and the messages in the lyrics are perfect. Without greed, competition, or bloodlust, there would be no competition, no war. Granted, we can’t change the world. There’s no greater folly, if you ask me, than trying to reform society. However, it’s nice to know that someone other than me believes in kindness and peace. Beatles, you have my full support.

Are we, then, to let society fall into ruin and disarray?  I argue that we must try to reform society as much as we can, so that it might be tolerable, one day.  Alas, I have to live in a miserable society today, but I do my part to make it better.

But have you ever considered how you actually affect one whose life you try to improve? Your style of purifying society in particular does more harm than good. By calling somebody obese, for example, I understand how you would be trying to push them to live a healthier lifestyle. However, I’m going to make the assertion that you would never stop to consider the negative impact you would make on their emotions. The social fabric [would] come undone if we were wholly frank with everyone, especially when the frankness is exhibited to a degree that your personality presents.* Good friend, live your and only your life, for the good of us all.

Just Another Day

I decided to just walk through the city today with a particularly keen ear, and I was taken aback by the harsh lack of sympathy and discretion displayed by the public. It seemed that everywhere I would stop, there was negativity. I popped into a Starbucks to grab a coffee and overheard a businessman complaining rather loudly about the eternal five minutes that he had to wait for his drink. A bit later in the morning, at the newspaper stand right next to the pastry shop, I couldn’t help but eavesdrop on a wife criticizing her husband for that doughnut he just bought but didn’t need due to that ever-growing potbelly. I mean seriously, in polite society, custom decrees that we show certain outward courtesies, but it seems that I’m the only one with this opinion. Sir, give the cashier a break, you’ll survive standing for an extra minute or two, and ma’am, doughnuts are delicious, that’s a fact you’ll just have to accept. Life is life, just enjoy it, and if you don’t have something nice to say, please don’t say it at all.
