Just Another Day
I decided to just walk through the city today with a particularly keen ear, and I was taken aback by the harsh lack of sympathy and discretion displayed by the public. It seemed that everywhere I would stop, there was negativity. I popped into a Starbucks to grab a coffee and overheard a businessman complaining rather loudly about the eternal five minutes that he had to wait for his drink. A bit later in the morning, at the newspaper stand right next to the pastry shop, I couldn’t help but eavesdrop on a wife criticizing her husband for that doughnut he just bought but didn’t need due to that ever-growing potbelly. I mean seriously, in polite society, custom decrees that we show certain outward courtesies, but it seems that I’m the only one with this opinion. Sir, give the cashier a break, you’ll survive standing for an extra minute or two, and ma’am, doughnuts are delicious, that’s a fact you’ll just have to accept. Life is life, just enjoy it, and if you don’t have something nice to say, please don’t say it at all.
